- Challenge:
- Book and feast are two different concepts, how
to combine them in harmony?
- What kind of feast can be chosen to best
represent the concept of "abundant" ?
- Promoting Chinese cultural ( including
"literature, philosophy and history" ) is the
core value of the Book Co., however, people
usually related the image of the Book Co. to
some kind of old stuff. Thus, they may
alreadly get bored and not interested in it.
How to renew the visual image to attract
people and create a space for people to visit
the booth?
- Process:
- Research on different forms of book and types
of feast are carried out.
- Illustration of new year paintings can be
modified by new colour scheme, but what kind
of colour scheme that can show the impression
of "Chinese"? I try to discover it in ancient
historical buliding like The Forbidden City,
Temple of Heaven...etc.
- Solution:
- Food is the key element of a feast. Therefore,
books can be changed to the "food-like"
forms. The dishes of Chinese wedding feast
can be chosen because it is familiar to local
community.
- A happy and hungry face in one new year
paintings is adopted to signifies how
"delicious" the feast is. Such kind of childlike
fun can be commonly understood by people in
different ages. Colour scheme derived from
the walls of The Forbidden City, with an
addition of colour of Jade because it can
produce a contrast visually but not out of the
theme of "Chinese".
