- Challenge:
- The time for layout designs is very limited.
Client can finish the text few days before the
production deadline.
- How to classify different chapters of different
stage of services but conherent as a book at
the same time?
- The provided photos are good enough and
contained a lot of detail. Since it is a
photobook What kind of background can be
used to keep the importance of the photos?
- Process:
- Research on the suitable grid for photo ablum,
prepare the pre-press procedure as soon as
possible.
- Abstract backgrounds are collected and
assigned for different chapter title.
- Photos are separated into simple structure
(without many heads) and complicated
structure ( with many heads). To display clearly,
the former one should be large in size, while
the latter one can be smaller in size.
- Solution:
- Communicate with the client intensively. Even
though the final version of text is not
confirmed, the quantity of the text and photos
can be confirmed. Layout are designed
according to the basic information.
- According to the colours shown in the photo
and chapter title, abstract backgrounds of
artistic patterns are assigned to different
chapter pages. Artistic patterns are reduced in
pages other than the first chapter page. Three
common background colours are selected to
keep cohererence but swop in different
chapters.
- Photos with simple structures are enlarged into
cross pages to create more space. Feather of
some photos remove the boring hard edges
and let the subject of the photos speak to the
readers.
